With covid, they might’ve pulled the financing, which the then led the developer to drop coop. There it is! I can imagine that this was game was partially financed by some entity in the arcade industry and that was driving the co op multiplayer. The Walking Dead Onslaught will launch Fall 2019 in VR arcades and soon-to-be-announced VR platforms. I’m looking for the original announcement of the game, and I found this from May 2019 That would explain a lot! It’s bizarre that the game was slated for a fall 2019 release, was delayed for a year and the end result is smaller in scope than originally announced.
Remove the VR's WOW-factor and you'd end up with a seriously mediocre game. Like honestly the main reason it was good was because it had such a high budget, not because the game itself would be good. (Which I did not notice any consequences for, except for the loot they gave you as immediate reward.) I at one point had someone point their gun at me and demand food, but I could just give it to her and immediately pull out my knife and shoot her without any problems. You had scared survivors, but your only options for interacting with them were giving them food/bandages or shooting them. Since loot respawned there wasn't exactly a reason to loot for a long time anyway, so I ended up having days where I just picked up the first thirty things I'd find and then get on the boat again. The areas were somehow both too large to explore in a single day, but at the same time whenever I went to the same location a second time I'd never find anything worth it. (And some weapons of course, but those would be even more expensive) There was a whole crafting system, but they would just give knifes with slightly better stats who would break after a couple uses. Sometimes you'd use your gun or fire your bow, but those situations were honestly never necessary, and with the lack of loot it always felt like a waste to use ranged weapons if you didn't need them. However, the combat was nothing more than just repeating the same 'slowly pushing down the bottle you broke in their skull', multiplied by how many zombies there were. The immersion was pretty good, I liked how the loot slowly dwindled over time, and the story was acceptable. Schedule an AMA!
